#1 - Save Heating Oil in the Spring and Summer

(by Charles McNevich Jr.)

If you have oil heat and oil hot water, you can save many gallons of heating oil by turning off the furnace during warmer weather and only turning it back on for a few minutes before you need hot water. When you need hot water for a shower, to run your dishwasher, etc., turn the furnace on until you get hot water (about 5 minutes). Turn the furnace back off when you are finished. This way you are not burning fuel oil 24 hours a day when you just need to run the furnace now and then during warm weather to get hot water.
